On the morning of June 18, the 9th ordinary session of the National Assembly-ninth Legislature was chaired by Mr. Khambai DAMLAD, Vice President of the National Assembly has considered the General Education Law, which started with the presentation of Dr. Samlan PHANKHAVONG, Vice Minister of Education and Sports (MoES) mentioning about 5 issues as below:<\/p>

  1. Background and implementation context of general education in Lao PDR;<\/li>
  2. Reason and necessity of the general education law development;<\/li>
  3. Procedure of general education law development;<\/li>
  4. \u00a0Structure and core contents of general education law; and<\/li>
  5. \u00a0Expectation after endorsement of the general education law.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    The consideration on the drafted general education law has continued for full-day; there were 35 members of national assembly had provided the opinions related to 42 articles and covered 93 issues. The key concerns from national assembly are included:<\/p>

    • the level of compulsory education<\/li>
    • the free compulsory education<\/li>
    • the transformation from 5+4+3 to 6+3+3<\/li>
    • the government budget to general education<\/li>
    • the fee of private education<\/li>
    • the decreasing of teacher in quantity and quality<\/li>
    • the duties of family and social to prevent the dropout of children<\/li>
    • the changing name from “upper secondary school” to the former name “high school”<\/li>
    • etc…<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
